Business consulting for firms that have outgrown guesswork
We work with owner-managed companies turning over £2m–£40m. Most engagements last eight to twelve weeks. You get a plan, a financial model, and someone to argue with about both.
No mystery, no drawn-out discovery phase that costs you three months of fees before anything changes.
Week 1: Diagnostic deep-dive
We spend two days on-site. We interview your leadership team, pull your last three years of management accounts, and map your top-ten cost lines. By Friday you have a written diagnostic memo identifying the two or three issues with the biggest financial impact.
Weeks 2–4: Model and pressure-test
We build a financial model of your business as it stands today, then layer in the proposed changes. Every assumption gets challenged in a working session with your finance lead. If the numbers don't hold up, we adjust the plan before you spend a penny implementing it.
Weeks 5–10: Guided implementation
Your team does the work. We provide weekly check-ins, draft the SOPs, coach the managers who need to change behaviour, and keep the project board honest. We don't parachute in with a slide deck and vanish.
Weeks 11–12: Handover and measurement
We compare actual results to the model, document what worked and what didn't, and hand you a 90-day forward plan your team can run without us. A follow-up call at the 90-day mark is included in every engagement fee.
What we actually do
Five practice areas. Each one has a defined scope, a fixed-fee option, and a clear deliverable at the end.
Pricing and margin analysis
Most mid-market firms leave 15–30% of gross margin on the table because they price by gut feel or match competitors without knowing their own cost structure. We rebuild your pricing from unit economics up, segment your customers by profitability, and give you a rate card your sales team can actually use. Typical engagement: four weeks, fixed fee.
Operational restructuring
When your headcount grows faster than your revenue, something is broken. We map workflows, identify bottlenecks, and redesign team structures so you can handle more volume without hiring. One recent client cut fulfilment labour costs by 18% in nine weeks.
Growth strategy
Should you expand into a new region, launch a second product line, or acquire a competitor? We model each option against your balance sheet and management capacity. You get a ranked shortlist with go/no-go criteria, not a vague vision statement.
Cash-flow planning
Profitable on paper, broke in practice. We build 13-week rolling cash forecasts, negotiate better payment terms with your top suppliers, and set up early-warning triggers so you never get surprised by a shortfall again.
Leadership coaching
Your MD is brilliant at the product but struggles with the people side. Our coaching programme runs for 12 sessions over six months, focused on delegation, difficult conversations, and building a senior team that can run the business without the founder in every meeting.
Questions we hear often
Our sweet spot is owner-managed businesses with annual revenue between £2m and £40m. Below that threshold the engagement fee is hard to justify. Above it, you probably need a larger firm with sector-specific benches. That said, we have taken on smaller companies when the problem is well-defined and the owner is ready to act quickly.
We offer fixed-fee engagements for most projects. You know the total cost before we start. For longer advisory relationships we use a monthly retainer, typically reviewed every quarter. We don't bill by the hour because it creates the wrong incentives on both sides.
The diagnostic phase is always on-site. After that, most of the work happens remotely with weekly video check-ins. If your team prefers face-to-face sessions during implementation, we schedule fortnightly site visits. Travel within England is included in the fee.
We measure outcomes against the targets set in the diagnostic memo. If we miss the agreed KPIs by more than 20%, we extend the engagement at no additional cost until the gap closes or we run out of levers to pull. We have triggered that clause twice in 137 projects.
We prepare the financial model, the management presentation, and the data room. We don't broker introductions to investors, but we work alongside your corporate finance adviser to make sure the numbers they present are defensible. Several of our clients have gone on to raise between £1m and £8m within six months of completing an engagement.
Construction services, food manufacturing, e-commerce fulfilment, professional services, and healthcare staffing make up about 70% of our past engagements. The remaining 30% is a mix: a chain of veterinary clinics, a specialist packaging firm, a regional logistics operator. Our methods are financial and operational, so they transfer across sectors as long as the business has recurring revenue and a team of at least 15 people.
Let's talk specifics
Tell us what's going on in your business. A short paragraph is enough. We'll reply within one working day with an honest assessment of whether we can help, and if so, what the diagnostic would look like.
